The origins of Berry Bros. & Rudd Wine & Spirits Merchants can be traced back to 1698, when the Widow Bourne established her business opposite St James’s Palace. Even today, descendants of the Widow Bourne still run the business at No. 3 St James’s Street in London.
The history of the “King’s Ginger” dates back over a hundred years: King Edward VII, who reigned from 1901 to 1910, liked to go out in the morning in his new horseless “carriage”. The royal physician was concerned about the king’s health and so Berry Bros & Rudd was commissioned to create a liqueur that would warm the king and strengthen his health. The result was a thick golden nectar with a fresh ginger flavour.
Berry Bros. & Rudd relaunched this product in 2010.
