The Rosebank Distillery, founded in 1817, was shut down in 1993, but its renovation has now led to the reopening of this prestigious Scottish distillery. This will also breathe new life into the surrounding community in Falkirk. Rosebank is owned by Ian Macleod Distillers, one of Scotland’s leading family-owned independent distilleries. The return of “The King of the Lowlands” in 2024 was eagerly awaited.
Rosebank whisky, considered one of the lightest and most floral Scotch whiskies of all time, is an unpeated Lowland single malt. Its fruity, flowery style is achieved through a combination of triple distillation – extremely rare in Scotland – and “worm tub condensers” – a production technique used only at the Rosebank Distillery. It gives the whisky a slightly heavier style due to the lower copper contact during condensation, but it is characterised by floral and citrus notes at the same time.
