The Return of a True Icon: Arran 14 Year Old

Arran 14 year old

70 cl | 46 %

Once there was, and now there is again — the long-absent Arran 14 Year Old.

At the close of 2019, the last bottles departed our warehouse. Over the past six and a half years, I have missed it frequently — it bridged the gap between the 10 Year Old and the 18 Year Old with admirable precision. The new expression continues to mature predominantly in bourbon casks, now accompanied by a modest proportion of Palo Cortado sherry casks. Characteristic Arran notes of apple and citrus are present throughout, underpinned by a delicate salinity.

Bottled, as a matter of course, without colouring and without chill-filtration.

The Arran Range

A brief update, in parallel, regarding the Arran range in general and certain minor adjustments to the packaging:

  • The designations “The Bothy” for the Quarter Cask and “The Bodega” for the Sherry Cask are being retired — henceforth simply Quarter Cask and Sherry Cask. Both will receive a new tube and label colour in the months ahead.
  • The two expressions 18 Year Old and 25 Year Old will no longer be produced — meaning that, while stocks last, both will eventually disappear from the range.
  • The Machrie Moor expressions are likewise to be discontinued. Stock of both the Cask Strength and the 10 Year Old remains available for the time being — once again, while stocks last, after which both will be withdrawn from the range.
  • The fourth instalment of the Signature Series has been announced for September at the latest — further details will follow in due course.
  • In November, Batch 2 of the Arran Barley is expected to arrive; only a handful of bottles of Batch 1 remain.

When thinking of Arran, please do not overlook the LAGG Distillery. The two expressions Kilmory and Corriecravie complement the island’s offering in exemplary fashion.

We remain at your disposal for any enquiries, and I wish you every pleasure in rediscovering this Arran classic.
