Tomatin Highland Single Malt Whisky

whi_tom

The Tomatin distillery is located in the Monadhliath mountains south of Inverness, the capital of the Scottish Highlands. Established in 1897, the distillery went bankrupt in 1985 and was taken over by the Japanese investors Takara Shuzo Co. and Okara & Co. The latter thus became the first Japanese owners of a Scotch whisky distillery. It has been trading under the name Tomatin Distillery Co Ltd since 1998.

In terms of output, it is now one of the top ten distilleries in Scotland. Tomatin has 12 stills and produced a total of 2.5 million litres in 2007, for example. The soft water of the Alt-na-Frith river, which flows clear and pure through the Monadhliath mountains, contributes greatly to the delicate flavours and the gentle yet full-bodied style of this Highland malt.

In terms of style, the whisky is suitable for beginners who want to try something stronger after light single malts. It is suitable for enjoying after a good meal, as it is full of flavour but not too complex, slightly spicy and has a round malty note.
