Campbeltown remains, to this day, one of Scotland’s most celebrated whisky regions – a place where a long-standing tradition meets an utterly distinctive style: many Campbeltown whiskies are marked by a weighty mouthfeel and a dirty, maritime character.
The Glengyle Distillery – where Kilkerran is produced – is one of only three distilleries currently in operation in Campbeltown. Kilkerran is a whisky of genuine individuality and character. Of particular interest to you and your customers: for years it has ranked among the whiskies offering the most compelling price-to-enjoyment ratio.
We have just received the Kilkerran 16 Years Old – the 2026 bottling was matured entirely in ex-sherry casks. It is bottled at 46% ABV, without chill-filtration and without the addition of colouring.
Colour: dark bronze.
Nose: it opens with herbaceous notes of tobacco and tomato leaf, followed by fruity aromas of rhubarb, blackberry and orange.
Palate: on the palate, notes of chocolate mousse and Medjool dates unfold, accompanied by brown sugar and blackcurrant.
Finish: the finish is rounded off by refreshing notes of mint leaf, salted raisins, dark chocolate with hazelnuts, and a hint of ash.
A long history
Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd was only newly founded in 2000, yet its history stretches back deep into the nineteenth century, to the distilleries of Springbank, Rieclachan and, above all, Glengyle. After a chequered history, Glengyle ceased operations in 1925. Seventy-five years later, the late Hedley Wright, then chairman of J & A Mitchell and Co Ltd, succeeded in reviving its story. He was the great-great-nephew of the company’s founder, William Mitchell. The name Kilkerran derives from the Gaelic Ceann Loch Chille Chiarain, the original name of what is now Campbeltown.
