Wolfburn – first single cask for Switzerland

The time has come – the very first exclusive Wolfburn Single Cask for Switzerland has arrived. We are proud to be able to present this for our 35th anniversary.

Single Cask 2017 Cask #002

58.4 % | 70 cl

This single cask bottling is the first exclusive bottling for Switzerland. It was bottled in 2024 to mark the 35th anniversary of Charles Hofer SA. The whisky, matured in a 2nd fill Oloroso sherry hogshead, was distilled in May 2017 and bottled as a 7-year-old in August 2024. Limited bottling of 324 bottles.

Colour: deep golden yellow.

Nose: Very slightly smoky notes mingle with a hint of honey and quince.

Palate: Light Oloroso flavours, the peat remains in the background and contributes to the structure. Fine notes of dried fruit and integrated tannins.

Finish: Warm and soft, persistent and flattering.

The release coincides with the arrival of two bottlings that are otherwise only available direct from the distillery or through the Wolfburn shop:

The Kylver Series 13 “Ihwaz”, 54.3 % | 70 cl

Mey Games 2024 Edition, 46 % | 70 cl

The history of the old Wolfburn distillery dates back to 1821, when it was founded by William Smith & Co. However, production ceased soon afterwards in 1850. A further two decades later, only ruins remained of the former distillery.

In May 2011, Aurora Brewing, a private consortium from Caithness led by Andres Thomsen and Harry Tayler, decided to make a fresh start and in 2012 received authorisation from the authorities to plan and build a distillery called Wolfburn. The first whisky flowed from the stills on 25 January 2013 – the first bottlings were launched on the market in February 2016. The distillery now stands around 350 metres from the ruins of the former one.
