The Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown, which produces Kilkerran, remains one of only three distilleries currently producing whisky in Campbeltown. This makes Campbeltown the smallest recognized whisky region in Scotland.
Kilkerran embodies the typical Campbeltown style – oily and maritime, with more or less peat aroma depending on the bottling.
Two pieces of news have just arrived:

About Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd.
Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd. was only re-established in 2000, but its history dates back to the 19th century and the Springbank, Rieclachan and, in particular, Glengyle distilleries. After an eventful history, Glengyle ceased operations in 1925. Seventy-five years later, Helden Wright, then chairman of J & A Mitchell and Co Ltd, succeeded in reviving its history. He was the great-great-nephew of the company’s founder, William Mitchell. The name Kilkerran is derived from the Gaelic ‘Clan Loch Wille Chiarain’, the original name of what is now Campbeltown.
