The Tomatin Distillery is located in the Monadhliath Mountains south of Inverness, the capital of the Scottish Highlands. Illegal distilleries are part of Scotland’s history; Tomatin has existed as a distillery, whether illegal or otherwise, since the 15th century. At that time, it was mainly cattle drivers who came to the market in Tomatin with their cattle over the high passes who filled their flasks at the distillery in the old Laird House. The Laird House stands right next to the current distillery buildings. The official distillery was established in 1897 and, at 315 metres above sea level, is one of the highest in Scotland.
