Lochlea Lowland Single Malt «Ploughing Edition» (Second Crop)

46% | 70cl

With the seasonal small batches, the characteristic Lochlea style is presented in four different ways each year. As it is a working farm, these bottlings reflect the agricultural calendar. “Ploughing” is inspired by winter on the farm, the time when the fields are ploughed to prepare them for sowing in the spring.

As the fourth and final whisky of the second crop of limited seasonal bottlings, the “Ploughing Edition” is matured 100% in ex-Islay casks, producing fruity and sweet flavours with a hint of peat.

Colour: Pale straw yellow

Nose: Fresh green apple, typical Lochlea muesli

Palate: Juicy fruit, freshly cut summer hay

Finish: Sea salt, lingering peaty glow

Lochlea Distillery is an independent single malt distillery located on Lochlea Farm in the heart of Ayrshire. Under the direction of renowned ex-Laphroaig distillery manager John Campbell, the family-run farm grows and harvests its own barley, ensuring full traceability from field to bottle – the only production step not currently carried out on the farm is malting, although this is likely to be done on site in the near future.

Historically, Lochlea is the only distillery on whose farm Robert Burns actually lived and worked from 1777 to 1784.

We recently sat down with John to talk about the Second Crop and how it differs from the Ploughing (First Crop) Edition. Watch the video on Youtube here: Lochlea Ploughing Crop 1 vs Crop 2
