We are delighted that Gin Pira has been honoured as “World Best Botanical Gin” at the World Drinks Awards.
In 2015, Guillaume Drouin created the first Normandy Gin, Le Gin de Christian Drouin, a gin made from more than thirty varieties of cider apples and 8 botanicals chosen for their marriage with the aromas of apples and juniper.
The range of Drouin Gins has expanded over the years, with Le Gin de Christian Drouin Calvados Cask, a Gin aged for over a year in old calvados casks. Then came Carmina, a new summer recipe, still made with apples but also with red fruits such as raspberries and blackcurrants.
Finally, in 2021, Guillaume Drouin launches Pira, a new gin recipe that continues to explore the aromas of the Normandy region.
In this new edition, the pear takes centre stage. A variety of Norman perry pear called Domfront is combined with juniper, vanilla, lemon, black pepper and Iris root, the flower that adorns the roofs of Norman cottages.
Pira is made using the same principles as the original Le Gin. Each ingredient is macerated and redistilled separately to optimise the extraction of flavours. The distillates are then blended before bottling.
Each gin in the Christian Drouin range is composed with great attention to detail, balance, and aromatic complexity, using precise distillation and blending techniques. Pira has just been awarded one of the most prestigious titles a Gin can win, that of ‘World Best Botanical Gin’ at the 2024 World Gin Awards! Pira topped a shortlist of over 500 gins from all over the world.
